Skin is the outermost layer of the body that protects us from the environment. It’s our utmost responsibility to take care of the skin to maintain the health and glow of the skin. Not all skin is the same. Depending on the skin type, different people have different needs. One must read the labels before using any product to understand the ingredients. There are certain thumb rules that have to be followed for a simple but effective skin care. They are:
Cleansing is essential and the right cleanser does not leave your skin tight after washing. You can clean your face once or twice in a day but don’t strip away the natural oils for a squeaky-clean feel. Choose a cleanser as per your skin type.
Serums comprise micronutrients crucial for the skin. One can use vitamin based serum such as Vitamin C serum or Vitamin E serum. Vitamin C serums are used in the daytime while Vitamin A or E serums are preferred during bedtime. It’s important to use them for long-term results.
Moisture or Hydration is the essence of life. All skin types need moisturizer. Even the oily skin! Now the trick lies in choosing the right product. Oily skin moisturizers are the one that does not block the pores. For dry skin, cream-based moisturizers are used. This information is available on the packaging so choose wisely.
Sunscreen is required in all weathers even when the sunrays are not harsh. This is to protect the skin from UV-A and UV-B rays. Apply sunscreen 15 minutes before heading outdoors as it takes a while for sunscreen to activate. Ideal SPF level to be used on a daily basis is SPF 30. Darker skin tones need more sun shield because hyperpigmentation is tougher to correct.
Ultimately we are what we eat. A nutritious balanced diet is crucial for healthy skin. Ensure proper intake of fresh fruits and raw vegetables. Be keen on citrus fruits and dry nuts to maintain the right PH balance.
Start with a basic and simple routine to see how your skin reacts. Extra products such as exfoliants, masks, and spot treatments to boost your skin’s health can be added when your skin gets used to the basic routine.
Always patch test new products on your skin if you suspect you have sensitive skin. This can help you identify potential allergic reactions. An allergic reaction can be anything ranging from irritation, redness, small bumps, or itchiness. If you have these symptoms, wash the area and do not use that product. Search for another product that suits your need.
