COVID-19 does not seem to be in any mood to stop and is increasing at a deadly pace making the count of confirmed cases 1,705,766 globally and 7600 in India. Since when it was discovered that the corona virus is the causative agent for COVID-19, scientists have been trying to get a better understanding of the genetic makeup of this corona virus to effectively treat the infections. But to launch any new vaccine in the market it takes a lot of time as many clinical trials have to be done before trying the vaccine on humans. Talking about the vaccine for COVID-19, in a survey conducted among the physicians, nearly 37 percent rated Hydroxychloroquine the ‘most effective therapy’ for COVID-19. Hydroxychloroquine is a drug that helps your immune system to fight off the infections. It is generally used to treat malaria and other auto immune diseases.
Though the doctors are not sure yet how this drug benefits the corona virus patients. It may change how the corona virus enters the human cells or in some other manner. Hydroxychloroquine is an unproven treatment for COVID-19 but is being used by majority of hospitals due to the lack of other treatments/vaccinations. It may work well for some patients, and for others it may not work the same. Keeping in mind a few side effects of hydroxychloroquine, it is just a game of gamble as of now.
